Expected to get A grades in her GCSEs at Haggerston School in Hackney, Agnes Sina-Inakoju was shot in Hoxton about 7.15pm on Wednesday, 14 April.

Hackney-based youth organisation, The Crib, has set up a memorial fund to help the family of 16-year-old Agnes and is now appealing for donations. Agnes was a Youth Rep at the Crib, and as manager Janette Collins says, ‘always getting involved and always helping out with organising the club’s activities. Before her untimely death, Agnes was organising a Consequences Programme, looking at cause and effect with gun and knife crime.’

Since 1999, the Crib has been an open door to Hackney’s young people. Activities include helping young people set up social enterprises around fashion design and catering, and mentors young people to aspire for more. Above all, the Crib is a place to go for many of the borough’s young people. The Crib has also been successful in bringing together children and young adults from different Hackney postcodes.

The Crib is actively involved with Hackney Council for Voluntary Service (HCVS), the borough’s leading voluntary and community sector support agency. It is one of four organisations which are part of HCVS’s Inspiring Young Hackney programme, funded through Big Lottery Fund.  The programme is designed to improve employment and training opportunities for local young people

HCVS are supporting The Crib with administering this fund.  The Crib has the full support of Agnes’ family who are grateful that the community has come together. Through the Agnes Memorial Fund, the Crib would like to set up counselling facilities for bereaved families and young people with first hand experiences of homicide. Together with point blank, the Crib are currently setting up a website in memory of Agnes.

If you would like to make a donation and contribute to the Agnes Memorial fund: Please send your donations to Agnes Memorial Fund, C/o HCVS 84 Springfield House, 5 Tyssen street, London E82LY. Please make any cheques payable to ‘The Crib’.
