| The Adiaha Antigha Community Achievement Award 2008 for contribution to services to new communities
Winner: Hackney Refugee Forum
|
Hackney is a place that has always welcomed new communities – we heard many nominations for organisations or individuals which have done exceptional work in this area.
Hackney Refugee Forum Hackney Refugee Forum (HRF) is the voice for over 40 local voluntary and community groups serving refugees and asylum seekers in Hackney.
As a network of organisations, HRF aims to influence local service providers and advocate on behalf of the needs of our communities.
HRF believe that by providing opportunities for exchanging, sharing and learning from the experience of refugees they can raise awareness of issues, enable them to access their rights, develop their well-being and take part as fully as possible in all aspects of community life. |

Ali Aksoy, Hackney Refugee Forum said: All our Management Committee members are very proud of receiving the Adiaha Antigha Community Achievement Award 2008 for serving the new communities in Hackney. I remember that we had talked about how can we better serve to refugee communities, especially newly arrived French speaking African communities in 2004 with Adiaha. She offered HRF the use of HCVS facilities at the beginning of 2005. Since than, we have done our best to support newly arrived refugee communities and she always supportive to us to better serve this group of people until her last day of her life.
So Adiaha, here we are, done and keep doing our best to improve, change the life standards of refugee communities in Hackney. We all know that this is a very difficult task but we learnt from you how to cope with difficulties and keep fighting till end. Thanks Adiaha, thanks HCVS."
