The Adiaha Antigha Community Achievement Award 2008 for influencing or changing local policy or practice

Winner: Hackney Advice Forum

We asked you to nominate to who you think has made the most important contribution to influencing or changing local policy or practice with Hackney council, the PCT, The Learning Trust?

The Hackney Advice Forum brings together a wide range of independent advice providers working in the borough to provide training and support services, to develop our own perspectives on what services are needed and how these can be brought on. A major activity over the last year has been to persuade the Council not to move the Advice Grants Budget into commissioning. Although this was successful, the Forum position did not make it popular with the Council and the Forum's grant has now been cut.

Andy Benson from Hackney Advice Forum said "It's a pleasure to receive this award on behalf of the Hackney Advice Forum and gratifying to learn that others in the local sector have been paying attention to what we've been doing. Although our funding has been cut, our work will continue. We hope that our work will spur others to speak their mind and stand up for what they believe in."
