BEMWG release report on mental health needs of refugees and asylum seekers in Hackney January 2010

The conference was held in November 2009 and primarily organised by Black and Ethnic Minority Working Group in partnership with Hackney Refugee Forum (HRF), City and Hackney Mind, Shoreditch Spa, Derman and Hackney Community Empowerment Network (CEN) and it was funded by Team Hackney

Become a Transformation rep for Hackney CEN!
Hackney’s Community Empowerment Network (CEN) wants to ensure that upcoming changes to adult social care - called Transformation or Personalised Budgets - happen in a way that benefits local people. The CEN is looking for four experienced, pragmatic people from the voluntary and community sector (VCS) to represent the sector on Hackney’s Transformation Board which oversees these changes to adult social care.

Mental Health Conference to address the needs of refugees and asylum seekers in Hackney

October 2009

Are you concerned with improving local services for Hackney’s refugee, asylum seeker and migrant communities? Share your views at a conference looking at the mental health needs of local people from these communities on Wednesday, 4 November 2009 at the Queensbridge Sports & Leisure Centre.

CEN awards 15 community networks funding

October 2009

Hackney CEN has awarded fifteen of Hackney’s community networks funding of between £700 and £5,000 as part of its Cross Cutting Network grants programme.

CEN issues a response to Team Hackney consultation on Child Poverty

July 2009

In June, the CEN organised a consultation for the voluntary and community sector to dahre the views on what can be done in Hackney to allevaite child poverty.  This is part of a cross cutting review of the Sustainable Communities Strategy.  Read what the VCS had to say on the key barriers and how they could be addressed.

Economic Development Network issues a response to Team Hackney consultation on Worklessness

30 June 2009

The CEN Economic Development Network (EDN) are pleased to have the opportunity to input into this consultation as part of the Sustainable Communities Strategy review. As well as listing the main recommendations from the meeting, the EDN would also like to make a comment on the definition of ‘worklessness’ itself and make sure that investigations are carried out to look at the role of carers, volunteers and others – who are working, and yet are not necessarily economically active.

Up to £5k for community networks in Hackney

The CEN launches a cross cutting grant programme to fund new and established networks of voluntary and community sector (VCS) organisations to develop their infrastructure and work more closely with the Team Hackney Partnership and the CEN.

Do you have specialist knowledge of tackling drug and alcohol issues in Hackney?

An opportunity has arisen for a CEN representative from the voluntary and community sector to take part in Team Hackney’s Drug and Alcohol Team (DAAT) Subgroup of the Safer Cleaner Partnership Board. We are particularly looking for a VCS rep with specialist knowledge of the drug issues, as the existing rep is a specialist in alcohol services.

Tender to support the Economic Development Network

The CEN are looking for an organisation or individual who can take on the work of supporting this network. This is paid work, setting up meetings, expanding the membership, liaising with the CEN and the Team Hackney Economic Development Partnership and helping to inform members of the key policy issues.
