The Hackney Compact is an agreement between the voluntary / community / third sector and public sector organisations about how they will work together in order to benefit local people, including commitments relating to funding, premises, volunteering and policy development.
I have been involved with my colleagues from the Community Empowerment Network (CEN) and Link UP network in drafting a refreshed Compact for Hackney.
All statutory, community, voluntary and Third Sector organisations are asked to respond to this consultation on draft text for the Compact. |
I am keen that we ensure that the Compact works for the VCS in Hackney. Over the coming years, this will shape how we work together and provide a framework for further discussion with our public sector colleagues about these big issues.
There are lots of areas that we discussed as a working group that I’m sure you will consider important.
You will see in the draft Compact document:
- a commitment to exploring how the VCS can manage public assets e.g. premises
- a commitment to developing a code on full cost recovery
- a focus on volunteering.
If we can get these things right, it will help us all deliver better projects and ultimately better services to local people. I urge you to get involved in helping us shape the future. We must capitalise on this new approach to ensure we have all we need in place to become a world class voluntary and community sector that is both strong and sustainable.
So please read the Compact documentation below and sign up for one of the four events that we are hosting on behalf of the CEN, to give you the opportunity to comment and get engaged in the consultation process.
