The award was presented by Simon Blake, Chair of Compact Voice, at a ceremony at the Dali Universe in London on Tuesday 3 November 2009 attended by 100 guests and hosted by Sir Bert Massie CBE, Commissioner for the Compact. Celebrating excellent partnership working, the Compact Awards showcase the Compact, the long-standing agreement that sets out shared commitments and guidelines for partnership working between public agencies and the third sector at a local, regional and national level.
Hackney’s Compact was developed in close partnership between statutory and third sector organisations and its implementation has been overseen by officers from both the Council and Hackney Council for Voluntary Service (HCVS). This has fostered a real sense of shared ownership and mutual trust.
Cllr Nargis Khan, Cabinet Member for Community Services and Co-Chair, Compact Implementation Group said: "I am pleased that Hackney's Compact has been recognised at a national level. The impact it is having on partnership working in the borough means that all organisations, be they from the public or voluntary and community sector, can work with greater confidence to make a difference to local people. This excellence award also recognises the multi-agency approach we took to the development and implementation of the Compact which is one of its key strengths."
Sir Bert Massie CBE, Commissioner for the Compact, said: “I would like to congratulate the Hackney Compact for being awarded a Compact Excellence Award. All our winners and finalists show that Compact principles improve the quality of partnership working, focusing on delivering the best services and providing maximum benefit, as well as promoting the building of long-term, sustainable relationships built on trust and commitment.”
Mary Cannon, Chair, Community Empowerment Network and Co-Chair of the Compact Implementation Group, said: “Working together on developing and updating the Hackney Compact was a great opportunity to ensure that both statutory and voluntary and community partners recognised and understood the contribution all partners make to improving the lives for Hackney people. The impact of working together using the principles set out in the Compact has already begun to show dividends, and we are pleased that our positive approach to working together in partnership has been recognised by this Compact Excellence Award.”
Jake Ferguson, Chief Officer of HCVS echoed Mary’s sentiments and said ‘HCVS has worked hard to ensure local voluntary and community sector groups have a Compact which is meaningful. This award is great recognition of this.’
