ABOUT HCVS - Find out about HCVS and What we do.

History of HCVS

Hackney Council for Voluntary Service was founded as an umbrella organization to support the development and growth of the voluntary and community sector. It was established and had its inaugural meeting in 1995 and its first staff were recruited in 1996. It is a limited company (no: 3365292) and a registered charity (no: 1069736) and has an executive committee, which manages it. We are a membership organization with over 300 members at present. In turn, we ourselves are members of NCVO and LVSC.

HCVS was set up following a survey carried out with LBH in 1995, amongst local groups and organizations to assess their interest and need for support. They expressed keen interest in having a CVS and stressed the need for information, liaison with the borough and advice and support around funding issues as major concerns.

In short, we support and enable voluntary and community groups to succeed in achieving their aims and objectives.
