Trustees  are often the unsung heroes of a charity, playing a vital role, volunteering their time, working together to make the decisions that really matter about the charity's finances, activities and plans for the future.

Trustees’ Week 2011 is the second annual celebration of trusteeship, to highlight the great work that trustees do, and to draw attention to the opportunities for people from all walks of life to get involved and make a real difference - no formal qualifications are usually needed, and many charities need more trustees.

Jake Ferguson, CEO of Hackney CVS said:

'Our Trustees are critical to our success providing guidance to our senior management team and ensuring we keep to our strategic priorities and spend wisely.'

Maggie Cooke, Treasurer for Hackney CVS believes that it is beneficial to be a trustee because it is 'empowering for the trustee and empowering for the charity itself.'

In the light of celebrating the outstanding work done by trustees a number of organisations, including The Charity Commission, Charity Trustee Network, the National Council for Voluntary Organisations and others have joined forces to organise the week and it is hoped that charities and other organisations around the sector will get involved to organise events and activities.
