Policy and leadership

As the lead body for the voluntary and community sector in Hackney, we do a lot of work behind the scenes to ensure the sector has a stronger voice in Hackney.
We work hard to ensure the sector is at the front of emerging policy agendas.
This is a priority for us and we will be clearer about what we’re doing.

Hackney's Voluntary and Community Sector Strategy
We lead the Voluntary and Community Sector Strategy supported by Team Hackney. This sets out a 10-year vision for the third sector, including voluntary organisations and community groups, in Hackney.
A really useful framework to help the sector grow, work will cover:
- Building a sustainable sector
- Bringing public and voluntary services closer together in Team Hackney
- Increasing community engagement and VCS involvement in delivery of the Sustainable Community Strategy
- Building the VCS’s support services.
Together with NAVCA, we recently published the draft below which went out to consultation. We took your comments and presented an action plan to Team Hackney which was signed off in April. We will shortly publish the final version.

Hackney's Migrant Strategy
Work has started on the first Migrant Strategy for Hackney. This will recognize the different needs of refugees and other groups in the migrant population and establish what we can do together for the benefit of everyone in the borough.
Thank you to everyone who took part in our consultation events in the Autumn last year. Following this, the Migrant Strategy was presented to Team Hackney in March 2011. It received support but members felt they wanted more time to discuss it internally. It’s likely that elements will be incorporated into the Sustainable Community Strategy refresh.
We will keep you updated on progress
